H₂ydroGEM, the hydrogen boiler by Giacomini

Heating without polluting, using only renewable energy sources, is no longer a futuristic scenario, thanks to hydrogen.

With our hydrogen boiler H₂ydroGEM, it is already possible to produce thermal energy from the combination of hydrogen and oxygen, and to use the heat generated by that reaction to warm an entire house.

How it works

How it works

The first hydrogen-powered domestic boiler in the world is based on a catalytic burner fueled by hydrogen gas. Within the reaction channel, a self-priming catalyst agent activates the oxidation process, with no need for electricity. Low-concentrated hydrogen combines with the oxygen in the surrounding air; this reaction produces thermal energy, or in other words heat. The latter is recovered through a system of exchangers, and used to heat water and interior environments.

The advantages

The advantages

The catalytic reaction, which is flameless and does not produce CO2, occurs at a temperature of approximately 300°C, meaning that harmful nitrogen oxides (NOx) are also avoided; the only by-product of the reaction is water vapour, which can be released into the atmosphere without any problems.

The heat generated is sufficient to cover household heating needs, especially if the thermo-sanitary system is equipped with radiant elements, ensuring comfortable temperatures and maximum efficiency at all times.

Our patents

Our patents

In 2005 and 2010 respectively, we patented our method for burning hydrogen and for its production in an integrated system: two important milestones in our journey towards manufacturing eco-friendly domestic heating systems that are entirely non-dependent on fossil fuels.

A countinuously evolving technology

A countinuously evolving technology

Since our first, cumbersome six-burner prototypes, we have perfected our technology over the years, creating single burner models which are more compact, more efficient and much safer, all the way to our H2ydroGEM which has been optimized in both function and design: weighing only 40 kilos, it has a nominal thermal power of 5 kW.

Highlights

Excess energy generated from renewable sources at peak production times is stored with minimal waste, to be used at a later time as required.

The only by-product of hydrogen’s combustion is water vapour, with no carbon dioxide emissions, or other polluting waste.

Since the catalyst temperature does not exceed approximately 300°C, the reaction does not release harmful nitrogen oxides (NOx), which are the primary cause for ozone hole formation and acid rain.
